No 51 Horizon (2012)
For Cello, Vibraphone, Chinese Gongs & Sinewaves
Commissioned by: Arnold Marinissen & Katharina Gross, with financial support from the Netherlands Fund for the Performing Arts
First Performance: Katharina Gross & Arnold Marinissen, March 18 2012, Gallerie Marzee, Nijmegen
Instrumentation: Cello, Vibraphone, Chinese Gongs & Sinewaves
Duration: ca. 10’
Special Features: Performance requires sound engineer, click track, stopwatch monitor on stage and amplification for all musicians.
A single line for two players. Both alternate while speeding up and slowing down against a gradually changing click track. The cello part consists only of harmonics, starting high, eventually ending up an octave lower and then returning again to the initial register.
An alternate – harmonic - version of the piece also exists, for cello alternating against dyads in the percussion.
